OUR TROOPS

Each troop is designed for a target age group so that we can tailor our training to the appropriate level of the cadets. It also allows for promotion as you progress through the academy and continue your development within the subsequent troops.
PIONEER TROOP
Age 10 - 12
What is a Pioneer? The meaning of Pioneer is someone who sees potential, a leader who is willing to try new things. A Pioneer pushes boundaries to advance a cause sometimes by overcoming great challenges. A perfect name for our youngest troop who want to come and learn new skills.

Prior Experience: None required.

Cap badge meaning: The circle of the badge is the face of a compass that guides us to move in the right direction. The climber on a mountain is the meaning behind pushing our boundaries and overcoming challenges.

Joining the Pioneers is an exciting opportunity. It’s the first step you will take in your journey to better yourself and learn lifelong skills that will stay with you forever. We might be the youngest troop in the academy but that doesn’t mean we aren’t the strongest. You will have the chance to bond with your troop and make lots of close friendships that ordinary clubs can’t compete with. We are a professional unit that supports each other and overcomes tremendous challenges together as a team. Are you ready to join the Pioneers?

RANGER TROOP
Age 12 - 14
What is a Ranger? In the military a Ranger is part of a highly trained army unit used to conduct special operations. They are ready for anything, able to work in complex environments and can operate self reliantly on their own or part of team. A great comparison with our own troop who being slightly older will take on a bit more responsibility.

Prior Experience: None required. You can join our troop directly. It is not necessary to have completed the previous troop.

Cap badge meaning: Rangers don’t need to brag about their status so the simple, less is more, logo sums them up perfectly with the letter R. The shield is a sign of strength and shelter against injury which represents the values of how Rangers always look after their team mates. The green background represents the wilderness and a reminder of how adaptable they are in different environments.

Joining the Rangers is the next level in the academy. Rangers take on greater responsibility compared to Pioneers and slightly more is expected of them. The troop will run through more than just the basics of being an adventure cadet and the theory of leadership will begin to be emphasised more in this stage of the journey. Join us if you want to learn how to lead like a Ranger!

PATHFINDER TROOP
Age 14 - 16
What is a Pathfinder? A Pathfinder is a person who finds or makes a path, way or route especially through a previously unexplored or untraveled wilderness. They are strong courageous leaders who have benefited from extensive training and preparation. In the military they go in to operations first, before the main party, and rely on their courage, self-discipline and confidence to achieve their mission. Our oldest age group is based around these principles.

Prior Experience: None required. You can join our troop directly. It is not necessary to have completed the previous troop.

Cap badge meaning: The wreath is a symbol of triumph associated with the final stage of the academy. The arrows inside the shield represent the ethos of a pathfinder, leading the way and exploring numerous untravelled paths in life. The colour blue represents intelligence and responsibility.

Joining the Pathfinders is our final level in the academy. Remember you don’t need to have been a Ranger before joining the Pathfinders and you can join the troop with no experience. As our eldest troop we do turn the dial a little further and focus a great deal more on how to operate to a level demanded of a future leader. We still learn the same fundamental skills of an adventure cadet, but incorporate more lessons on how to inspire others to follow you in your mission. You won’t regret the lessons and skills you will acquire as a Pathfinder.
